The Trade that Was and the One That Wasn't
The Browns also had discussions with Oakland after they picked Iowa tackle Robert Gallery. If the Browns had stayed at No. 7, they considered selecting Texas receiver Roy Williams and then trying to trade him to Oakland for Gallery. As part of the deal, the Raiders also wanted the Browns' first-, fourth- and fifth-rounders in 2005. The Browns said no.
The Browns first offered Detroit their fourth- and fifth-round picks to move up a spot for Winslow, but Detroit wanted the second-round pick and more. The Lions settled on the second-rounder.
I was thinking the same things while watching the draft, and not sure the first deal wasn't the better one. It's apparent now though that the Browns thought an awful lot of Winslow, nearly as much as Gallery.
